Life catches us by surprise. Things are going along pretty well and then, suddenly, there’s a significant event that changes everything. Whether it is an accident, illness, a developing chronic condition, or simply the changes associated with aging, the needs affect us or someone we care about so significantly that changes are necessary, and the decision is ours to make. What do we do?
If the challenges are related to helping an elderly person maintain their independence in their own home, whether that is you or someone you care about, Abiding HomeCare has the key to unlock the solutions.
As a member of The Senior’s Choice, Abiding HomeCare is part of a nation-wide membership network of independent home care providers with over 22 years of experience. Our membership in The Senior’s Choice makes it possible for us to provide the best elderly care available in the non-medical home care industry. Our training programs, which are exclusive to members of The Senior’s Choice, provide a way for our employees to complete the training and testing to become Certified Companion Aides (CCA)®.
The care provided in your home is tailored to your needs. Unlike a franchised caregiver company like Comfort Keepers® or Home Instead®, we are both locally owned and independent. We custom design each home care service plan to that person’s unique needs. We come on the days and start at the time most useful to those we serve. We have clients that we see as little as once a week for a few hours, and on the other end of the spectrum of senior care we serve people 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure they also have the help they need readily available. We offer service in several different models to meet the needs of our clients:
- Hourly. Our caregivers come at the time best suited for you. The services can be basic companion care which includes meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, linen changes, shopping, errands, companionship, etc. Or we can provide overnight safety service so the family member(s) gets their needed rest.
- Live-in. This service is for those who need someone in the home with them for security and peace of mind. Our companion aides are there for a 24-hour period and during each period work for eight hours, have eight hours of leisure time, and eight hours reserved for sleep. However, they’re in the home and ready to respond to an emergency when needed. The services provided are the same as those for hourly care, but this is a less expensive alternative for those who do not need an awake caregiver with them all the time.
- 24-hour care. When an awake care provider is needed all the time, this service is done in shifts and there will usually be two to four caregivers rotating around the clock.
- End of life support care. We provide the assistance that fills the gap between what the hospice agency can do and what the family provides. Our Certified Companion Aides and Certified Hospice Companion Aides can be there for up to 24-hours each day to help with the things that make it possible for the family and the patient to spend this precious time with one another.
In addition to home care services, we also provide services and technology solutions that help make life at home safer and less stressful.
- SafeSenior. This simple service provides a senior with a phone call up to three times each day to either check on them to see if they’re well or to remind them to take medication. SafeSenior will attempt the call up to three times for each scheduled call. If there’s no answer after the third attempt, of if they answer but respond inappropriately, the system will call the point of contact and urge them to check on the situation.
- VoiceCare. A personal emergency response system (PERS), VoiceCare provides a quick, reliable, and accessible way to call for help in an emergency. Using a small activator that can be worn around the neck, on the wrist, or clipped to clothing, a call for assistance is only the push of a button away.
- QuietCare. An advanced sensor system that discretely monitors the daily activities of someone living alone, QuietCare provides the highest level of passive security available for an elderly person living alone. Family members or friends can be granted access to a secure web site so they can check the status at any time.
Located in Silverdale, Washington and providing care to Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Kingston, Port Orchard, Poulsbo and surrounding areas, Abiding HomeCare provides a range of services designed to help elderly men and women maintain their independence in their own home for as long as possible. Staying in ones own home is one of the most important priorities an older person has, and it’s often the little things, the activities of daily living, that make this more difficult. While family members and friends are often willing to provide care, that can be complicated in a number of ways. Most family members either work or have other personal and professional responsibilities, or they are uncomfortable helping their loved one with the personal care activities like toileting and bathing. Friends are often willing to help but are also limited due to their own family’s needs. Abiding HomeCare is here to fill those gaps and make it possible for almost anyone to continue to live where they want with only the level of assistance absolutely necessary. They can often start with just a few hours one or two days a week and then gradually increase services as additional support is needed.
A home care, or home health care, agency is only as good as the care providers they send into their clients’ homes, and AHC takes this very seriously. Each caregiver we hire has gone through a strict process of selection and training. Starting with the basic items required by the state to maintain our license, we then add additional levels of background checks, personal reference checks, drug screening, training and, most importantly, supervision. Each companion aide (care provider) we send to your home will be personally introduced and oriented by one of our supervisors. That’s how we fulfill our promise to “never send a stranger to your door.”
Memory care is the fastest growing need in the long term care industry. As a member of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Abiding HomeCare is committed to providing resources to our clients and their families to help them understand this process and access the services they need to continue the best possible quality of life. Our best certified care providers complete the AFA Qualified Dementia Care Provider (DCP) program so they have the additional skills and awareness needed in these unique care situations.
Abiding HomeCare is also the local provider of Ashby Memory Method. The Ashby Memory Method is an innovative brain health program geared toward seniors who are experiencing memory loss. This is a non-drug treatment option for dementia that has shown measurable improvements. As a brain fitness program, the Ashby Memory Method incorporates the science learned from brain injury rehabilitation and applies these principals to the cognitive decline caused by dementia. The program is appropriate for seniors with memory loss, early to moderate stage Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and other types on dementia. When professionally facilitated, individuals on this program can slow the emergence of new symptoms and improve their quality of life which often translates to being able to stay in their homes longer, something that is important not only to them but their families.
Award winning. In 2007, Abiding HomeCare received the Better Business Bureau of Western Washington’s Torch Award for most innovative business. We continue to strive for continuous improvement. For the last two years, we have received Pinnacle Consulting’s Best in Class Award for consistently grading in the top 10 percent of all the organizations they survey in the United States.
